Not much is known about Oswin Oswald's past in canon. However, there are a few things that we can infer. We can pretty much infer that her childhood was normal enough, for she seems to be well-balanced and even mentions her mother affectionately. We can also assume that somehow, she learned how to hack into computers, and is most likely self-taught. For that reason, it's likely that she spent a lot of time around technology as a child, and might have even have had parents that worked in some sort of field with it.

It's also rather obvious that Oswin spent most of her life wanting more than what she had in terms of adventure. She pleads with the Doctor to show her the stars, and was obivously interested enough to take a place on the Alaska. While little details are given about what her position was, the title 'Junior Entertainment Manager' tells us that her job most likely involved working with children.

So, as a summery, Oswin grew up in a relatively normal enviroment, most likely spent her childhood around technology and taught herself how to hack into computers. Later in her life, Oswin took a job aboard the Starship: Alaska as Junior Entertainment Manager in order to explore the universe, but unfortunately, the ship crashed on the surface of the Dalek asylum.

(Note: should any of these points be completely contradicted by canon in the future, I will be canon-updating and possibly re-applying for Oswin.)
Point in canon: Oswin will be taken from just after the crash of the Starship Alaska. Instead of climbing a ladder out of the wreckage of the ship, she’ll find a window to Citagazze.
Window Location: Oswin's window will be in the wreckage of the Starship: Alaska, which crashed on the face of the Dalek Asylum. No one is sure how, for there is a forcefield around the entire planet, but somehow, the starliner slipped through. Outside of the ship is the Asylum itself, which takes up the entire planet, right down to the core. It is mostly an underground series of corridors and tunnels with chambers for the insane Daleks kept inside. The Asylum itself is a dumping ground for insane, battle-scarred and uncontrollable Daleks. The surface of the planet is little more than a frozen wasteland, with multiple holes in the ground that lead to the interior of the Asylum.
Universe: Oswin’s universe is assumed to be Earth in the future, where space travel is readily available to people. Apart from that, we don’t know much about it.
Abilities:Oswin is a genius and incredibly strong of mind. She’s an extremely skilled hacker and is capable of getting into almost anything (of course, there will be a permissions page for this). Also, she bakes. Just not soufflés, she hasn’t quite figured out how to make one that doesn’t burn.
Possessions: Apart from her clothes, Oswin will be arriving with a utility belt around her waist, which contains several pouches. Most of these are empty, but there is a scanner (which can scan most places for signs of life), a communication device and a torch/flashlight in three of them.
